Thanksgiving Service Recap

November 24, 2009

Sunday Night, November 22nd, we celebrated Thanksgiving as a community. Around 300 people from churches all over San Marcos gathered at PromiseLand Church for the annual community-wide worship service.

Worship teams from Christ Church, San Marcos Community Church, PromiseLand, and Abundant Life Christian Church supplied singing, music, and dancing. Ministers from El Buen Pastor United Methodist, Powerhouse Christian Center, CTMC, St Mark’s Episcopal, Redwood Baptist, took part in the service with scripture readings, liturgy, and a benediction. Dr Jenna Heart, pastor of First United Methodist Church, preached the sermon.

Paul Buntyn, our SMMA president and Gary Jepson, president of CTMC, welcomed the crowd. It was an honor to have Mayor Susan Narvaiz in the service as well.

The night culminated in an offering for Salvation Army. We raised just over $1300 for local Salvation Army distribution.

Thanks to everyone that was a part of this night of unity. Jesus Christ was honored and thanked.

Churchlist.com

September 24, 2009

Move over Craigslist!  A new site targeted at Churches and Christians in general is now active online.  Churchlist.com  is an online classified ads site that targets churches.  Specifically, it is offering a forum for church leaders to buy and sell church equipment, supplies, and anything else unique to churches.  However, the website also offers: church members a venue for buying and selling their items, church employment, and a general church listing for people looking for a church home.

Churchlist.com is brand new, so it is looking for people to start posting items.  Go through your church closets and find those gems that you never use.  You never know, it might be someone else’s treasure.  You can offer items for free or with a price.  Post something.  Buy something.  If you want to advertise your business or church, of course that is an option also.

They are adding cities as needed. So, if you want your city listed, send them an email.  You can also post your city here.  I have a feeling they might be looking at this blog.

Thanks!

San Marcos Prayer for Rain

August 18, 2009

Several local pastors have planned a City-Wide Prayer for Rain at the Pavilion in City Park.  August 31, 7:30pm

Pastors and city leaders will be leading the gathering in prayers specifically targeted at breaking the drought over San Marcos.  All churches are welcome to attend.  Let’s see how many people we can gather at the park that night.  It will be great for Christians to unite under this common purpose.

See you there!

San Marcos City Council votes to continue Prayer

July 8, 2009

Last night the council chambers were PACKED with supporters of prayer.  Probably around 20 citizens spoke out for continuing invocations at council meetings.  One representative of the ACLU spoke out against prayer.  Once the council took up the issue, it took about 5 minutes for them to vote unanimously IN FAVOR of continuing the invocation and having the city attorney draft an official policy for it.

Basically, prayers will be open to all faiths of San Marcos and the prayers can not promote or demote any religion over another.  The mayor said that the council would continue to work with the SMMA to coordinate prayers, but that the city clerk is officially in charge of scheduling those who will pray.
